BGT Training Tennis Balls are available in five colours, giving handlers greater control over the difficulty of retrieving exercises. Use more contrasting colours when developing marked retrieves and confidence, then introduce colours that blend more readily with the training environment as you progress towards memory, hunting and blind retrieve work.
Real Training. Real Instinct.
A simple tennis ball, made more useful for serious gundog training.
Our BGT Training Tennis Balls are available in a range of colours, allowing the handler to alter how easy the retrieve is for the dog to see and helping create a natural progression from straightforward retrieving exercises to more demanding hunting and memory work.
The aim is simple: sometimes we want the dog to see the retrieve clearly. Sometimes we want the dog to use its nose, memory and hunting ability to find it.
The different colours give you options when setting up training exercises against different backgrounds and ground conditions.
🟠 Orange
Ideal when the handler wants a highly visible training ball, but one that is not so visible for the dog. Useful for introducing blind retrieves, and helping the handler see exactly where the ball has landed.
🔵 Blue
A strong general-purpose training ball that provides a different level of contrast against grass and natural ground. Great for everyday retrieving sessions.
⚪ White
Excellent when you want a retrieve that stands out clearly against darker ground, woodland edges and vegetation. Particularly useful for marked retrieves and exercises where you want the dog to build confidence in running to an obvious fall area. Especially good for puppies.
🟢 Green
Designed to blend more readily into grass and vegetation, making the retrieve less visually obvious. Ideal for progressing dogs onto exercises where they need to remember the area, trust the handler and hunt properly rather than simply running towards something they can see.
🔴 Red
Provides another useful variation for changing the visual picture presented to the dog and can be incorporated into progressively more challenging retrieving exercises, with the dogs having to use thier noses more.
Use the different colours to create progression through:
As the dog’s ability develops, the handler can deliberately choose a ball that is easier or harder to distinguish from the surrounding terrain.
That means the BGT tennis ball isn’t just something to throw.
It becomes part of the training system.
REAL TRAINING. REAL INSTINCT.
Build the retrieve.
Build the hunt.
Build confidence.
Then gradually take away the visual clues and teach the dog to trust its memory, nose and handler.
